Updated information has been posted on the Leagues/Camps page for the 2010 Triway Summer Basketball League (Junior Division) and Triway Titan Basketball Camp.

The season came to an end for the Triway Titans on Friday, March 12, in their 69-65 loss to Orrville in the DIII Wooster District Championship game. Triway was down 15-2 early as Orrville was hot and able to run the floor, but Triway never gave up and showed a lot of heart in the 2nd half, bringing the final to as close as it was. Even with as disappointing as it is to lose in the district championship again, the Triway Titan basketball team has no reason to hang their heads. They represented themselves with pride and character, played the game the right way, and represented the community well. Congratulations on a fine season, men!

Triway kept rolling in the tournament as they jumped up big early against Waynedale and cruised for the victory in a game that got close for a little bit then spread back out again, 65-43. Houmard (4 reb, 4 ast, 4 stl) and Lawson both finished with 14 points, while Weber (5 rebs) got into double-digits with 10, as well.

The next game wasn't so easy against the Smithville Smithies in the district semi-final. Down 1 point in the 3rd quarter, Triway held the ball at mid-court for over 6 minutes straight before scoring a bucket at the end of the period to go up 1 point, and would win the 4th quarter 19-6 en route to a 36-22 victory. The only player for either team in double figures was Dana Brooks, barely, with 10 points to go along with his 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The key to the game was stopping the Smithville offensive leaders, and that game plan was successful as Frizell was held scoreless on only 4 shot attempts, Caldwell only scored 4 points, and Orr only had 6 points.

10:11 PM 03/02/2010

The Triway Titans basketball team started its tournament on a winning note, jumping out to a 13-0 lead over Chippewa early and cruising with three quarters of at least 20 points, winning 74-57. The largest lead was 26 points (61-35). Triway was again led by Zach Houmard with 20 points, 3 steals. A number of other Titans got in on the action, though, with Christoph Weber going for 12 pts, 6 reb, 5 stl, and 4 blk, Brooks scoring 11 points to go with 9 assists and 5 steals, Nolan Wharton's 11 points, and Polen scoring 9 with 4 rebounds. The Titans take on Waynedale Saturday at 6:00 PM. Go Titans!

The big win over Orrville didn't have the Titans feeling good for as long as they would have liked. The following Friday, Triway hosted Canton Timken and was pressured into 29 turnovers while Timken worked it inside to get the 71-51 win over the Titans. Triway got production from Zach Houmard (13 pts, 6 rebs) and Sawyer Polen (11 pts) in a game where the purple and white outrebounded the favorites. Timken got 21 pts from Porrini, 15 pts 8 asts from Clarke, and 12 pts 5 rebs from Collier.

The game that followed had the opposite expectation going in, but the same result as Triway traveled to Tuslaw and battled to force overtime before losing the PAC battle 53-49. Only one player reached double-digits for the Titans, and that was Houmard who had 19 points to go with his 7 rebounds. Weber grabbed 10 boards to go with his 7 points. Tuslaw's scoring was more well-rounded with Erfurth getting 14 pts, Todd with 12 (7 rebs), Getz with 9, and Warth with 8.

Senior Night was a little more exciting for Triway, who had a few quick scoring bursts throughout the game and pulled out the win over CVCA, 64-56. The Titans finally got a few players in double-digits like earlier in the season, with Houmard leading the way with 17 pts and 10 rebs, followed by Brooks (12 pts), and Butcher (10 pts). Lawson and Polen both had 8 pts each. CVCA's Xavier Douglass proved once again he's one of the best players in the league, going for 21 points, 6 rebounds to go along with teammates' 10-point efforts by Peters and Mosteller.

After the loss to Wooster, the Triway Titans boys basketball team got back on track with a 53-45 victory over Indian Valley. After leading by 19 points at one point in the game, the Titans coasted to the victory. Zach Houmard led the Titans in scoring with 15 points (and 7 rebounds, 3 assists) followed by Brandon Butcher with 11 points. Indian Valley's T. Eckstein had an outstanding game with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 blocked shots to lead the Braves in a losing effort.

The following Friday, the game with CVCA on February 5 was postponed and moved to February 23. On Saturday, though, Orrville travelled to The Pit and competed in one of the best and most exciting games in recent Triway basketball history. After trailing 10 points early, Orrville battled back to take the lead in the 3rd quarter. Triway found themselves down 5 points with a minute to go but made some clutch buckets to force overtime. Then with 2.5 seconds to go, Triway's Houmard (20 pts) hit a jumper to grab the 53-52 victory in overtime! Butcher was also in double figures for the Titans. Orrville's scoring leader was Jacob Bolyard (17 pts, 5 rebs), accompanied in double figures by Zach Wasson (12 pts) and Max Pirman (11 pts).

The DIII Wooster District seeding is Sunday, February 14. Afterwards, look to the DIII Wooster District tournament web site for brackets and other team information.

In a 3-game stretch, Triway dropped 2 games, one to Fairless and one to Wooster, and sandwiched in between was a victory over Tusky Valley. Against Fairless on January 15, the Titans couldn't get the game to their pace early, and the Falcons held on late with free throws to seal the 67-55 win in a PAC-7 shocker. Leading the way for Triway was Nolan Wharton with 20 pts (6 rebs). Also in double figures was Sawyer Polen with 11 pts (11 rebs). Fairless had a few key players, starting with J Flinner's 15 pts and A Matheson's 15 pts. J Dennis also got into double figures with 12.

The Titans got back on track at Tusky Valley's tiny gym, taking care of the Trojans quickly, jumping out to a 35-13 halftime lead and cruising from there to a 56-33 victory. The team leader in points was Houmard with 17, while nobody else reached double figures. Tusky Valley had nobody reach double figures.

After getting back on track, the Titans traveled to Wooster High School for a hyped-up rivalry game but couldn't come back after a slow start that saw them get down 16-0, and lost to the host Generals 96-80. The Generals were shooting hot from the field all night, which kept many 2nd half attempted comebacks at bay. Triway's leading point-getters were Brooks (25 pts), Wharton (14), Houmard (14), and Polen (12). Spittle was hot from long range for Wooster and finished with 22, followed by Kacere's 20 points, Stefanik's 17, LaLonde's 14, and Mahler's 12. The physical play and atmosphere from the game Tuesday night can only help the Titans as they prepare for the last 5 games of the season against quality opponents, heading into the DIII Wooster district tournament.

9:06 PM 01/13/2010

Triway suffered its first two losses of the season as it fell to two very good teams, 79-60 to undefeated Hiland and 112-70 to DI Timken but won its next two to move to 10-2 on the season. In the Hiland matchup, Triway led for a good portion of the game but couldn't keep it up for a full 4 quarters as it fell off late. Leading the Titans were Brooks with 14 pts followed by Polen (11 pts, 10 rebs) and Houmard (11 pts, 7 rebs). Kaufman led Hiland with 27 pts, 11 rebs.

After the Hiland loss, the Titans tried to tackle Timken but couldn't keep them off the scoreboard as the Trojans ran to a 112-70 victory. Triway's Houmard was the game's leading scorer with 26 pts in a losing effort along with fellow senior Brandon Butcher who put in 13 pts and got 8 rebs. Timken was perfect across the board with 7 players in double figures led by Porrini's 17 (6 ast) while Clarke, Collier, and Robinson (9 rebs) all netted 14.

The purple and white got back on track against Tuslaw and couldn't miss early, and they rode that to a 56-37 victory. The leading scorers for the victors were Brooks (6 ast) and Weber with 15 a piece with Houmard getting 12 pts, 6 rebs, 4 ast. Tuslaw was led by Warth with 10.

To end the 4-game stretch, Triway won a physical thriller against Manchester 64-57 in a game that was never more than 10 points apart. Brooks was hot from outside and from the free throw line as he finished with a game-high 21 points followed by Houmard's 17 pts, 7 rebs. Manchester's N Miller (10 rebs) and Noble (10 rebs) did most the damage for Manchester, scoring 16 and 18 respectively.

12:49 PM 01/01/2010

Triway's offense had an outburst against Indian Valley and had everything running perfectly as they wrapped up an 82-34 victory. Houmard led the way again with 20 points followed closely by Wharton's 17 pts and Lawson's 14. Indian Valley's leading scorer was Mizer with 8 points.

After a high-scoring offensive performance against Indian Valley, things got slowed down into the complete opposite end of the spectrum. However, the Triway Titans still prevailed in a low-scoring battle with CVCA, 43-29. After trailing 6-4 at the end of the 1st quarter, the Titans won the last 3 quarters and held CVCA to 8 points of less in all 4 quarters. That hard-nosed victory against a disciplined CVCA team will help prepare the Titans for their toughest game to date, as they take on undefeated and highly-touted Hiland in The Pit on Saturday, January 2. Go Titans!

Note: I will be out of town from Jan. 2 - Jan 11. Please be patient for web site updates this week. Thank you!

The Titans completed another 3-0 stretch of games, this time taking care of league foes Fairless and Tusky Valley, and capping the week off with a 22-point win over Western Reserve. Things got started against Fairless in a game that was not pretty by any means, but the Triway team overcame turnovers and foul trouble for the 70-56 victory. Leading the way was Houmard with 24 pts, 8 reb, 5 ast, 2 blk. Three other players reached double figures: Wharton (13 pts, 6 reb), Butcher (10), and Weber (10). #44 Dennis did most of Fairless' damage, finishing with 19 points.

On Friday night in The Pit, Tusky Valley gave the Titans a big scare as the Trojans were hot from beyond the arc to keep the game contested until the buzzer. However, Triway prevailed 52-49 to stay perfect. Houmard's 15 points, 12 rebounds and Brooks' 17 points led the way. #12 Shetler for Tusky Valley knocked down 5 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 19 points.

In the week's final game, the 4th game of the WQKT/Steve Smith Classic, Triway downed a solid Western Reserve team 64-42 after getting off to a slow start. Wharton led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Brooks' 12 pts, 5 reb, 8 ast and Butcher's 11 pts and 7 rebs. Polen eclipsed 10 rebounds (12) for the 4th time in the season's first 6 games. Western Reserve was led by #12 Todd who scored 15.

The Triway Titans have gone 3-0 to start the season. In the season opener against Northwestern, The Pit was rockin'! Both teams fought hard in a game that saw Triway come from behind in the 2nd half to get the win, 78-71. Triway's scoring was as perfect as a coach could ask for, with 5 players in double figures and another with 9 points. Leading the way was Brooks with 18 pts, 8 ast, followed by Houmard with 15 pts. Northwestern was led, of course, by Brennan McKean's game-high 22 points.

In the 2nd game, Triway traveled to backyard rival West Holmes and took care of business, getting the 73-45 victory. This time Houmard and Weber led the team with 13 pts each, while Wharton's 10 pts put him in double figures as well. Defensive pressure caused havoc, and easy buckets led to 36 points in the paint. The Knights' Sabine netted 17.

After starting 2-0, the Titans headed into Manchester's "Jungle" to begin PAC-7 league play. The Titans survived a very physical defense and hostile environment with a 66-57 victory in an intense, physical battle. Even though Triway lost the points off turnovers 22-7 and 2nd chance points 17-8, their bench stepped up to pile on 34 points (to Manchester's 5) to show the importance of depth. Wharton led the way with 18 pts, followed closely by Houmard's 15 pts. Weber also scored in double figures, again, with 10 pts. Also, for the 2nd time in 3 games, Polen reached 10+ rebounds. Manchester was dependent upon starters Miller and Noble who led their team with 19 and 16 pts respectively.

Triway's season ended Friday night in a thrilling district championship game against DIII #1 Smithville, 65-60. Triway had a small lead early, and then Smithville climbed up to a 10-point lead by the end of the 3rd quarter. It was short-lived, though, as the Titans battled back to bring the game to within 2 points at a few different points in the 4th quarter, including only being down 2 with under 30 seconds to go. However, the Titans couldn't get the big shot to drop, and the Smithies made the big plays when they needed them. Triway was led by Cody Kelly who finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists. Nobody else was in double figures, but the scoring remained balanced as usual - Findley (9 pts, 3 stl), Goldstein (9 pts, 3 stl), Brooks (9 pts, 4 ast), Houmard (8 pts, 3 ast). Smithville's Kornowski led Smithville with 18 pts, 16 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots. Following him closely behind were Bates (17 pts), Frizell (13 pts), and Caldwell (12 pts, 7 reb).

Triway plays Smithville at the College of Wooster on Friday, March 13, at 7:30pm.
Go Titans!

10:27 PM 3/10/2009

Triway outlasted a solid Northewstern team to avenge their early season loss, as the Titans advanced to the district final to play Smithville with a 68-57 win over Northwestern. A slow 1st quarter saw Triway down by as much as 9, but they outscored the Huskies 53-36 in the final 3 quarters. Leading the Titans was Kenny Goldstein with a big night, going for 25 points. Following him were Findley (12 points, 7 reb, 4 ast) and Houmard (11 points, 8 reb). Kelly barely missed his 3rd double-double of the tournament, getting 9 points, 10 rebounds. The McKean brothers were shut down, only combining for 18 compared to season-opening combination of 49. They were led by Cherry's 13 points, and Reed and B McKean each had 10.

Triway is scheduled to play Northwestern on Monday, March 9 at 7:30pm. Go Titans!

8:59 AM 3/7/2009

Triway began its postseason successfully, as it won its first two matchups of the DIII Wooster district tournament. On Tuesday, Triway opened up with Tuslaw, playing them for the 3rd time this season. After a tight 1st half that saw the teams tied at 28-28, Triway started the 3rd quarter on a 16-0 run and never let the game get in doubt, coasting to a 61-45 victory. Cody Kelly had a big night with 21 pts, 11 rebs, and 3 stls. Following him were Houmard (14 pts, 6 reb, 5 ast, 3 stl) and Findley (9 pts, 4 reb, 4 ast). Martin again led the way for Tuslaw, finishing with 18 pts, 4 reb, 3 stl.

That victory set up Triway with a matchup with Rittman, who was waiting with the bye. Again, the first part of the game gave the Titans a scare, and Rittman shot out to a 18-9 1st quarter lead, only see it to fall to a 1 point advantage by halftime. Triway outscored Rittman 42-25 in the 2nd half, and 66-41 after the 1st quarter. Kelly had another outstanding game, finishing the double-double with 18 pts, 10 reb, 3 stl. Dana Brooks (17 pts, 5 ast) and Zach Houmard (10 pts, 5 reb, 8 ast, 4 stl) also made double digits as 8 Titans total got in the scorebook. As was expected, Rittman went as Trogdon went, and he finished with 21 pts while his teammate Hatfield netted 14 pts, 9 reb, 4 ast.
